
Over the next years, Andrew pursued jazz through music school studies, jazz workshops, and his commitment to the music and the development of his won improvisational abilities.īy the age of 10, Andrew began catching the attention of music legends such as Barry Harris, and the late Les Paul, who invited Andrew to perform with them numerous times, at New York City’s most renowned jazz clubs.

He started music lessons at age 6, and by age 9, found himself studying at a conservatory in Manhattan, where he gravitated towards playing jazz. He began playing, self-teaching, and recreating whatever music he heard that was of interest to him. Katie would like to thank her teachers, Mr. Her most recent achievements are the All-County Orchestra for French horn, and the All- State Mixed Choir as a Soprano singer. She has been involved in the Garden City Community Theatre for twelve years and singing in the choir oat her church there for even longer. Her musical experience, however, did not begin there. Katherine has been an active participant in the Garden City High School’s music department for the past four years, singing in Chamber Choir and Vocal Jazz, and playing her French horn in the Wind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble and pit orchestras. She is the Principal Cellist of the High School Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra and plans to continue playing the cello in college. Since fifth grade, she has consistently represented Garden City in the All-County and Long Island String Festivals, and last year, she received a perfect score on her All-State audition. She began participating in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO) in sixth grade, and has performed with MYO in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. Jan has been playing music since she was four years old when she started the piano, and in third grade, she began to play the cello since then, she has studied with Mary Park. Matt will be attending Tufts University in the fall where he hopes to continue performing. He also played with the pit band for school musicals and was a member of the Jazz Ensemble all 4 years of high school. As a member of the Marching Band, he was the drum line section leader his junior and senior years. At the high school, he performed in the Wind Ensemble as a freshman, eventually becoming section leader. He continued to play in Middle School and joined the high school marching band in 8th grade. In 2010, GardenCityJazz launched several new projects, including an art exhibit, print division and community festival.Matt has been playing drums and percussion for 7 years, starting in 5th grade after switching from trombone. The format alternates between a classic jazz concert setting and jazz dinner/dance party in alternate years. GardenCityJazz has partnered with the Aiken Jazz Society since 2005 to present an annual festival. Prior to the collaboration, the event featured a single band.
GARDEN CITY JAZZ SERIES
Since 2004, GardenCityJazz has worked with the City of Augusta to present the Candlelight Jazz Concert Series – 18 low-cost concerts (showcasing different styles of jazz) in a family-friendly, smoke-free setting at beautiful Riverwalk Augusta. Since then, Gordon has formed relationships with musicians, educators, festival coordinators, and organizations all with the goal of supporting jazz in the CSRA. In 2003, while still a member of quietSTORM (smooth jazz band) Karen Gordon founded Garden City Jazz with the purpose of presenting jazz in non-traditional settings.

Garden City Jazz presents several programs annually in the Greater Augusta Area, providing performance opportunities for area jazz musicians and music students, while promoting awareness of the historical and cultural significance of jazz music. It is our goal to CONNECT: PROMOTE: DEVELOP. We are artists and arts supporters who appreciate jazz music of all forms.
